In 2010, three dairy companies from Apples, Ballens and Montricher, at the foot of the Vaud Jura, embarked on a journey to create the new 'cooperative society of the Jura foot'. Indeed, the three fromageries were aging, and the installations were turning obsolete, provoking major repair and maintenance costs.
The new society thus develloped the 'Projet de Développement Régional Agricole' (PDRA) 'Valorisation des produits du Pied du Jura' - the 'Regional Agriculture Development Project', to 'promote the produce from the foot of the Jura'. The aim of the society was to build a brand new fromagerie, which would process the milk of 23 cooperative agricultural producers to make Gruyère AOP and other regional specialties, to create a more-than-needed touristic facility in the region and to develop the selling of the fromagerie produce.
The development project was implemented with the help of the Confederation and Canton de Vaud.
On October 1st 2013, the project was authorised and the first foundation stone was laid on November 11th 2013, in the presence of the State Councillors Mrs. Béatrice Métraux and Mr. Philippe Leuba.
